I'm watching the final game at Yankee Stadium tonight. What else could I possibly watch? Tonight's Emmys or the Packers-Cowboys game couldn't possibly be this good ...
OK, maybe I'll flip over to catch a little of the Packers game.
... I've had ESPN's coverage on for most of the day, and the pre-game ceremonies are underway as I type this ...
It's pretty awesome to see the greats together on one field. We may love to hate 'em, but this is truly their night.
If there were any blemishes, think the whole idea of having actors trot onto the field as the starting lineup for the 1923 was a little ill-conceived. Every fan and player the cameras showed seemed to be thinking the same thing: "Uh, this is kind of lame, I hope the whole ceremony isn't like this."
That, and I got a kick out of the AIG billboard in center field that reads: "The strength to be there." ... Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiight.
On a night when everybody's sharing their favorite Yankee Syadium memories, mine has to be the 2001 World Series -- the aftermath of 9/11, the late-inning home runs, playing in November, Derek Jeter ... Aaron "Bleepin' " Boone's home run to win the 2003 pennant would have to be a distant second...

… So I didn’t get to see the Ben Folds Five reunion performance last night …
Kates and I were running around the house trying to get Phoebe fed, trying to get ourselves fed. And I was bent over the sink washing dishes, more specifically baby bottles, when the thought of the concert hit me like a brick …
I bolted to our downstairs office and logged on to MySpace …
Only to find out MySpace wasn’t even streaming the show. Ack!
However, internet stories and rumors have it that the show will be streamed sometime next month, and we can only hope that it will be released on DVD, same as the MySpace gig Folds did a couple years ago, shortly afterward …

Sunday reading
The story of this weekend: the weather.
I arrived home from work Friday afternoon to bright sunny skies, thick muggy air -- and the sound of tornado sirens. Kates, Phoebe and I held out for about an hour in the basement and waited for the warning to expire ... Then I went outside, mowed the lawn and puttered in the yard until a pouring rain forced me back inside ...
Yesterday, we were out on the town for the annual downtown and kite festivals. It was another bright sunny day ... Phoebe loved getting pushed around in her shoulder. We met friends. Listened to live music. Shopped the deals. Ate ice cream -- it was won-der-ful ... Then we had barely arrived home and the storms rolled in again. And more tornado sirens.
Today. We went to church ... and then watched it pour for most of the afternoon. The sun came out for the latter part of the afternoon, giving us time to visit a graduation pary and for me to do some more puttering in the yard. Tonight, Kates and I got Phoebe to bed and waited for Grandma -- she's staying with us for a couple days -- to arrive ...
Grandma had just arrived. Kates was helping her unpack. And I was settling in to watch what was left of tonight's Cubs-Dodgers game ... when a tornado warning appeared on the TV, and the sirens started sounding once more. We grabbed Phoebe out of her crib, and here we are in the basement again. Good thing its a homey basement ...
Hey, remember when we had a tornado in January? Those were fun times.

I still looooooooove MySpace for its ease of finding new music and monitoring my favorite bands, as well as the ability to really personalize my page and stay in touch with old friends. But, I'll admit I'm finding Facebook to be a good means of staying in touch with people, too, not to mention all the fun applications that you can download on to your page. You have to admire Mark Zuckerberg for doing it his way ...

Last night I was surfing through videos on MySpace and came across this one. Pretty amusing ...
Funny Bathroom Mirror Prank
And then there was this one, whch features a kid who's not very bright ... But man, did I enjoy it! As I was downloading the video it stalled at a point where I could see exactly what was about to happen, and I burst out laughing before even seeing the outcome. Then the video resumed, of course, and I couldn't stop laughing ... I proceeded to watch it multiple times. Continued to laugh. Showed it to my loopy cohorts this morning. All of us watched it multiple times together. And laughed until we had tears in our eyes.

Now this has been my kind of weekend.
... On Friday night, Kates and I attended a cohort's wedding at one of our city's most picturesque, historic sites, followed by a lively, entertaining outdoor reception on the lake. The night was made with wonderful scenery, great jazz music and fun conversation with friends and co-workers ...
... And on Saturday, we had more of it. Kates and I opened up our house to friends and family for a classic backyard barbecue ...
... As for today? We got some rain early this morning, but the sun rose and it appeared as though it would be a beautiful day for a ball game. .. No dice. As we started arriving at the field an hour before gametime, it was clear the field was not ready. ... Beyond frustrated -- this was the second rainout in as many weeks -- we tried calling around town to other ballparks, but found no better conditions ...
So. ...I've cleaned up our kitchen after last night. Watched the Cubs lose. Took a little nap. And now I'm giving you my reads of the week ...
a Guster expands sound, band on new album ... I downloaded the new CD in anticipation of seeing these guys next weekend at Summerfest. I've only listened to it once so my jury's still out ...
a Do-it-yourself music: Heap doesn’t need band for backup ... I was working the wires earlier this week and when I saw this one, I gasped in excitement. People are starting to notice Imogen Heap, and that makes me happy. (for my post on her concert a few weeks ago go here)
